A shy star takes the long way across the sky and learns that slow is allowed.

Ready when you are.

There was a star that did not like to rush.

The other lights zipped along their paths. This star took the long way, like a walk after supper.

It paused above a hill. It paused above a pond. It paused above a house where a child was putting on socks for bed.

The moon said, you are late.

The star said, I am on time for me.

The moon thought about that. Then the moon dimmed a little, to match the star's pace.

Together they moved the way a yawn moves: slowly, and all the way.

The child in the window watched until the lids grew heavy.

The slowest star kept watch, not bright, not busy, just there.

That is a good job for a star.
